Maintenance Specialist: Salary Range: $31,144-$34,032/Annually

JOB PURPOSE: Responsible for the Spindletop fleet of vehicles. Performs moderate repairs and maintenance for Spindletop vehicles. In addition, serves as backup and on-call personnel for advanced skilled maintenance and repair work for all Spindletop buildings and residential homes in the community and. Tasks include vehicle maintenance and repair, building, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical repairs, painting, carpentry, and moving furniture.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High school diploma or GED, supplemented by training in related building trades. Must have two years' experience in vehicle maintenance and repair and two years’ experience in repair of buildings and in the operation and maintenance of electrical, air conditioning and mechanical equipment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Is knowledgeable about all areas of vehicle repairs and maintenance procedures
  • Is knowledgeable about all areas of building repairs and maintenance procedures
  • Good driving skills
  • Ability to read and follow instructions, both written and verbal
  • Ability to write notes, memos, letters, various complex reports and miscellaneous other documents with acceptable spelling and grammar

  • May be required to interact with other consumers, referral sources, outside agencies, and family members to determine needs and actions to be taken.
  • Current State of Texas Driver License or if you live in another state, must be currently licensed in that state.
  • Liability insurance required if employee will operate personal vehicle on Center property or for Center business. Must be insurable by Center's liability carrier if employee operates a Center vehicle or drives personal car on Center business.
  • Must complete all training requirements in month in which they are due.
  • Must be available to provide on-call duties as required.
  • Availability of a personal vehicle for business use may be required.
  • Work will take place within office and community settings
  • Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must successfully pass all background screens as required by the state.
  • Ability to input data into computer, make calculations, complete paperwork, produce reports
  • Must be physically able to complete work orders to include walking on uneven surfaces, climbing stairs, and standing for long periods of time if required.

Essential Tasks & Standards:

Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs to assigned Center vehicles and facilities as needed. Responsibilities include coordinating vehicle maintenance activities such as oil changes, tire service, battery replacements, wiper blade replacement, vehicle inspections, repair scheduling, and ensuring Center vehicles are clean, operational, and available for staff use. Additional responsibilities include maintaining building systems, equipment, and grounds.

  1. Performs Motor Pool responsibilities including preventative maintenance of Center vehicles, scheduling oil changes and repairs, coordinating vehicle inspections, replacing batteries and wiper blades as needed, monitoring vehicle condition, and ensuring vehicles are clean, safe, and operational.
  2. Maintains vehicle maintenance records and coordinates service schedules to minimize downtime and ensure fleet readiness.
  3. Performs maintenance and repair work for Spindletop facilities including building, electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, mechanical systems, carpentry, and painting as assigned by work orders.
  4. Notifies supervisor if outside contractors are necessary to assist in vehicle service needs, repairs, or maintenance. If directed by supervisor, contacts outside contractors for repairs or maintenance.
  5. Maintains tools and equipment in good working order. Ensures proper tools are available prior to performing each assigned task to promote efficiency.
  6. Inspects Center vehicles, equipment, and buildings to identify maintenance needs and ensure safe operation.
  7. Moves furniture and equipment.
  8. Delivers and installs furniture and equipment in correct locations within specified time frames. Avoids damage to furniture or equipment during moving or installation.
  9. Drives safely at all times resulting in no at-fault accidents or safety violations.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.
